Uvajuq, Inuuhuktu & Amaaqtuq
The traditional story of these hills, as told by local elders, is that they are a family of giants. During a time of great hardship the family were passing through the area looking for food. However, they were not successful in their search. They came out of the sea onto the land and Uvajuq (the father) died first. Next Inuuhuktu (the son) died and lastly Amaaqtuq (the mother), who was carrying her baby.
To the north of Cambridge Bay are three hills called Uvajuq (Mount Pelly), Inuuhuktu (Baby Pelly) and Amaaqtuq (Lady Pelly).
